I totally ripped off this image from fellow rbb member Todd’s blog.
Two years ago some friends and I got together and decided to start a little design collective. We all worked in agencies around town and wanted to find an outlet for our creative energy outside of work. So redblackbrown was born. It’s been a fun road over the past couple years but my favorite thing by far that we do is our calendar. In the two years we’ve done it, we’ve always been rushed. Time has gotten away from us and we’ve had extremely high expectations for what we would do. It’s been challenging and I always learn a ton in the process of making it. Every year we say, “Maybe next year we’ll be more prepared”. Whether we are or we aren’t I look forward to seeing what next year brings because I love this process. It’s incredibly fulfilling and it’s an amazing experience to collaborate with such smart, talented, and different (we’re all designers but we approach things so differently, it’s interesting) people. I consider myself lucky to be a part of it.
So sentimental gushing aside, 2010’s calendar revisits our fortune cookie theme. Each month is inspired by a fortune from a fortune cookie consumed by one of us during the past year. It’s screen printed on paper by the best paper company ever, French Paper. This year we went from one color to two and printed in white and dark brown on kraft paper.
We’re all quite thrilled with how it turned out. You can see more photos here and there’s more info about the project on the redblackbrown site or if you love it so much you’d like one of your own, you can find them in our shop for $20 a piece.
